Skills, Seals, & Opportunities

Skills, Seals, and Opportunities are linked to all the work students do on PortfoliOH. Skills are simple concepts used as benchmarks for measuring student ability. In PortfoliOH, a collection of related Skills is called a Seal (State associated) or an Opportunity (business associated). Documenting and verifying sufficient evidence for all the Skills in a Seal or Opportunity can help students meet graduation requirements and fast track them for job opportunities.

For example, in Ohio the OhioMeansJobs – Readiness Seal is a state-defined Seal defined by 14 key Skills which can be used as a graduation requirement. PortfoliOH can help students document the Skills related to this Seal by documenting evidence in school, their community, or the workplace. Additionally, PortfoliOH can help students create the necessary documentation to complete their graduation requirements by exporting their work as a downloadable file.

Graduation Requirements: Official Seals aligned to state-defined criteria for graduation.

Skill Collections: Opportunities completed when students demonstrate a specific combination of skills that signal readiness for particular career pathways or work-based opportunities.

Custom Achievements: Opportunities created by schools, employers, or other ecosystem partners to recognize local priorities, specialized programs, or unique accomplishments.
